Drum kits, drum sets or as they were once known as trap sets due to contraptions that held cowbells and whistles on the drum set.
Drum sets came about in theaters due to the lack of space, so drummers were encouraged to play as many percussion instruments as they could. Originally drummers used their hands to play the instruments before drumsticks came along. A working bass drum pedal was created in 1909 by William Ludwig, this was the start of manufacturing for the Ludwig company.
